In fall 2024 we rolled out Auto Nudge in our beta app. While we believe it was (and is) functioning as programmed (based on extensive testing), some users experienced issues with unexpected deep cuts. Upon investigation, it seems this was partly related to solar storms (causing RTK to do crazy things) and partly due to the way users interpreted the new functionality and how they expected it to work.

The initial version of Auto Nudge requires the user to manually increase or decrease the pass number so that the app knows how much to cut on that pass based on a max. cut value in Settings. What happened in some cases is users worked on sections of a run, increasing the pass numbers as they worked, and then moved on to a brand new section expecting the pass counter to reset. Because it didn’t, they ended up taking a big bite on the initial pass.

In these cases, Auto Nudge was working as we had programmed it to, but obviously we’d overlooked some important factors related to the user experience. We are currently investigating other logic options for Auto Nudge, with our ultimate goal being to automatically determine the required cut depth for every pass without the user needing to do anything. We hope to have an updated test version in Q1 of 2025.
